This is going to be a short little introduction today to give you all the ego boost you deserve.
*For full effect, imagine Sam Elliot's soothing voice reading the following words to you*
We’re deep into this quarantine now. You may not know what day it is, maybe you realized (like me) that you haven’t washed your bed sheets in way too long. The lines of “grunge-chic” and “poor-hygiene” are really starting to get blurred people.
But let’s be real - regardless of how you are coping with this pandemic, I would like to remind you that you are coping with a pandemic!
If you feel bad that you’re not “doing well enough”, umm, EXCUSE ME?! Did you really expect yourself to be prepared for a global health crisis?! NO!
Maybe you’re only putting on pants once a week, maybe you’ve taken up Tik Tok (guilty), maybe you’re really thriving and finally teaching your dog how to roll-over.
Whatever you are doing - you’re still living. And you know if things are in italics this sh*t is real.
So next time you get down on yourself for “doing it all wrong” or “spiralling”, remember JP’s tweet.
As long as you’re not hurting anyone, it doesn’t how you’re coping. The point is you are coping, we're doing this. Bake that banana bread! Give yourself bangs! Definitely do NOT rob a bank!
You’re doing better than you think you are.
If you have things you think should go in the newsletter or want debate which member of One Direction is thriving in their solo career (spoiler: I STAN THEM ALL) - email me at itsgoodnewsdudes@gmail.com
(Also, if you know someone that would like this newsletter, they can sign up for it through this link!)
That's Some Good Sh*t!
Cringe-worthy flexes on Instagram feeds are the norm these days as we try to constantly one-up each other (we get it Chad, your dad got you a Mercedes). One flex that we can support? Jack Dorsey (CEO of Twitter and Square and master of the Zoolander look) donating one BILLION of his equity in Square to fund COVID-19 relief efforts. ONE BILLION.
Now, because I am horrendously underqualified to explain what equity is, I’ll leave it to Variety, “Dorsey, who has a net worth of about $3.3 billion according to Forbes, announced the plan Tuesday on Twitter. He said the $1 billion represents about 28% of his wealth. The funds will be distributed through his Start Small LLC charitable fund.”
Why now? The needs are increasingly urgent, and I want to see the impact in my lifetime. I hope this inspires others to do something similar. Life is too short, so let’s do everything we can today to help people now. 🏼
You can see how the donations are spread out through this Google Doc. The best part? After the pandemic ends, the fund is still going to keep giving money, shifting focus to girl’s health and education and universal basic income.
After Lady Gaga sang “I’ll never love again” at the end of A Star Is Born, I really didn’t think she had any more of my heart to steal - I was wrong. Gaga has raised $35 million in ONE WEEK for the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response friend. All the money is going towards protective equipment for frontline workers, testing kits, and to “improve lab capacity” for tests.
Gaga is teaming up with WHO and Global Citizen to put on a music festival called “One World Together at Home”. Here’s Gaga;
“We celebrate and we highlight the singular, kind global community that is arising right now,"
(I may be reaching, but doesn’t she sound like your a certain humble newsletter writer? Are you saying there’s a parallel between me and Gaga? No? Cool.)
"We want to highlight the gravity of this historical, unprecedented, cultural movement. And, we want to celebrate and encourage the power of the human."
You can watch this celebration of human positivity on April 18th. While I personally wasn’t invited to perform, there are some semi-famous names set to sing like Billie Eilish, Lizzo, Elton John, Chris Martin, Paul McCartney, and Stevie Wonder.
"We celebrate and we highlight the singular, kind global community that is arising right now," she said. "We want to highlight the gravity of this historical, unprecedented, cultural movement. And, we want to celebrate and encourage the power of the human."
"I'm not that good at sewing but tried hard to make them as I want to help people," she said.
There are certain production standards medical masks must meet in order to be used on the front-lines, but her selfless action is what matters; even a 13-year-old girl knows that when the world is going through a crisis it’s time to help in any way you can.
(Meanwhile, governors in the states have to outbid each other for critical medical supplies. I know the US jabs are low-hanging fruit but come on Donald).
News report! Joanne Farrell, her beautiful daughters (and yes they are my cousins so I’m biased, sue me), and Joanne’s sister Patti was ADORABLE!! I would explain by but I’ll let the video of them surprising their mother on her 89th birthday do the talking.
